Pandemic a dress rehearsal for new medical curriculum

As dozens of faculty, students and staff worked to plan a new medical school curriculum, it turns out they also inadvertently were preparing for the sudden jolt to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Study finds older primates father far fewer babies

Older male rhesus monkeys sire fewer offspring. Sperm quality or quantity, or infant survival, may decline with the father’s age, a study from Krista Milich in Arts & Sciences suggests. The work has implications for human reproductive health.

New way to address common computing problem

A new algorithm developed in the lab of Jr-Shin Li at the McKelvey School of Engineering provides a framework for solving complex linear inverse problems that doesn’t require a supercomputer and also enhances security and privacy.

Newest form of proton therapy offered at Siteman

A second proton therapy system has been installed at Siteman Cancer Center. The pencil-beam scanning technology delivers extremely precise treatments of proton therapy to treat cancers in particularly sensitive areas and pediatric cancers.

Brown School launches pandemic initiative

The Brown School has launched a “Foundations of Pandemic Preparedness & Response” program. The five-part, 20-hour program provides a self-paced, online tool kit to help public health and social service professionals respond, mitigate and prevent infectious disease outbreaks, focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Missouri Climate Dialogue series begins

Washington University’s Climate Change Program, along with the University of Missouri–St. Louis, is hosting a series of virtual events to address climate and energy topics affecting the state of Missouri. The first is Aug. 18.
