‘D.C. must protect its inmates from the coronavirus’

Daniel Harawa, director of the School of Law’s Appellate Clinic, co-writes an op-ed in The Washington Post calling for Washington, D.C., to vastly improve conditions at the D.C. Jail in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He writes that most are either held awaiting trial or serving time for minor offenses, yet could be at greater risk than many of contracting a serious disease.

Notables

The Brown School’s Jason Purnell will lead a response team of over 40 St. Louis area nonprofits, social service agencies and governments to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 Regional Response team aims to help people get help with needs such as employment, food, housing, child care and legal aid.

Shyam Kiran Akula, a 2016 Arts & Sciences alum, has been named a 2020 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow, a prestigious academic honor for outstanding immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing a graduate education in the United States.
