Hu appointed dean of faculty of Arts & Sciences

Feng Sheng Hu, dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been appointed dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences at Washington University, effective July 1, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

Help line requests skyrocket during pandemic

In the first week since COVID-19 was designated a pandemic, requests for food pantries skyrocketed across the U.S. as did those for home-delivered meals. Brown School researcher Matthew Kreuter tracks calls to the national 2-1-1 help line.

Tumors, surrounding cells illuminated by imaging agent

School of Medicine scientists developed a new imaging agent that could let doctors identify tumors as well as the surrounding normal cells that the cancer uses as a shield to protect it from various treatment strategies.

Tang Dynasty woman buried with her polo donkeys

A noblewoman from Imperial China enjoyed playing polo on donkeys so much she had her steeds buried with her to continue in the afterlife, archaeologists found. The team includes Fiona Marshall of Arts & Sciences.

Cindy Brantmeier, professor of applied linguistics in Arts & Sciences and faculty fellow for international research, is the 2019-20 Merle E. Simmons Distinguished Alumna for Indiana University’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese.

Four early-career researchers at the School of Medicine have been recognized by the American Society of Hematology for their dedication to the field. The awards provide financial support to fellows and junior faculty who have dedicated their careers to the study of blood disorders.
