Wendland appointed next provost

Beverly Wendland, the James B. Knapp Dean of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, has been appointed provost of Washington University, effective July 1, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

Proton therapy as effective as standard radiation

A new study suggests proton therapy is as effective as traditional X-ray radiation therapy while causing fewer serious side effects. Lower hospitalization rates and fewer emergency room visits could offset the therapy’s higher initial cost.

Ronald Levin, the William R. Orthwein Distinguished Professor of Law, has received the American Bar Association Administrative Law Section’s 2019 “Award for Best Scholarship” in the field published in 2018.

A group of medical professionals from the School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospitals received an award from Generate Health. It recognizes development of the Clinic for Acceptance, Recovery and Empowerment in Pregnancy, which provides treatment for women with opioid-use disorder.
