Solar expansion continues at Washington University

The university has launched a new $3.5 million solar project. When complete, it will generate 2.5 megawatts of energy across the university — the equivalent of taking 480 cars off the road.

Rineys give $15 million for work on new therapies

Rodger and Paula Riney have made a $15 million gift to the School of Medicine. The gift is aimed at accelerating research and developing new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

An interdisciplinary team of researchers from the McKelvey School of Engineering and the School of Medicine have found the most efficient length for cilia, the tiny hair-like structures designed to sweep out the body’s fluids, cells and microbes to stay healthy.

Exploring black film exhibition and more

Film scholar Diane Wei Lewis, of Arts & Sciences, explores the work of author Cara Caddoo, who studied the history of black film exhibition in America around 1900. Caddoo is among the speakers at the “Beyond the Film” symposium Saturday, April 6, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Film and Media Studies program in Arts & Sciences.

Notables

Yevgeniy Vorobeychik, at the McKelvey School of Engineering, is part of a team that received a $6.25 million five-year grant under the U.S. Department of Defense’s Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative Program. The team will develop tools to understand and shape the networks that drive human decision-making.

Kinga Pabjan, a master’s candidate in architecture and construction management at the Sam Fox School, was part of a three-person team that won the 2019 Project Precast design competition.
