Obituaries

C. David Gutsche, professor emeritus of chemistry, 97

C. David Gutsche, professor emeritus of chemistry in Arts & Sciences, died in August in Seattle. Gutsche was 97. He helped establish an annual award for a senior chemistry major who has completed significant research in organic chemistry.

Kolk publishes ‘Taking Possession’

Heidi Kolk, of the Sam Fox School, is publishing “Taking Possession.” The book centers on an 1851 St. Louis town home that originally was residence to a fur-trade tycoon and today serves as the Campbell House Museum. Over the last 130 years, it has been subject to extensive preservation work. Kolk explores the motivations behind the effort.

Notables

The university has been awarded a $20,000 “mini-grant” by the Association of American Universities to further existing efforts to improve undergraduate education in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. The funding will support programming organized by the Center for Integrative Research on Cognition, Learning and Education.
