Scientists ID source of damaging inflammation after heart attack

School of Medicine scientists have zeroed in on a culprit that spurs damaging inflammation in the heart following a heart attack. The researchers also found that an already approved drug tamps down such inflammation in mice.

Tamanaha installed as Lehmann University Professor

Brian Z. Tamanaha has been named the John S. Lehmann University Professor at the School of Law. He was installed at a ceremony in Anheuser-Busch Hall’s Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom.

New tools reveal prelude to chaos

University engineers have developed tools that mathematically describe the kinetics in a system right before it dissolves into randomness. The research recently was published in Physical Review E.

Loeb Teaching Fellows announced

The 2018 James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture asks how infrastructure shapes our individual and collective environments. The biennial research competition for early-career architects is organized by the Sam Fox School, in concert with AIA St. Louis. Registration opens Aug. 15; proposals are due Nov 1.

Zishan (Simoner) Zhao, Arts & Sciences student, 19

Zishan (Simoner) Zhao photoZishan (Simoner) Zhao, a rising junior in Arts & Sciences, died June 2 from injuries after being hit by a car while attempting to cross a street in Wilmington, N.C. He was 19. Zhao, who was from Shenzhen, China, was majoring in biochemistry.
