Taking aim at racial disparities in infant mortality

This spring, two multidisciplinary teams of graduate students from the Brown School, Olin Business School and the School of Law took part in the first Social Innovation Initiative, tackling the problem of infant mortality in St. Louis.

$5 million supports innovative breast cancer trial

A $5 million grant will support research at the School of Medicine aimed at improving breast cancer therapies. The research focuses on HER2-positive breast cancer. Ron Bose, MD, PhD, and Cynthia X. Ma, MD, PhD, are leading the effort.

Olin announces Family Business Center, professorships

The St. Louis-based Koch family has agreed to contribute a $12 million endowment to establish the Koch Center for Family Business at Olin Business School as well as two distinguished professorships.

Four medical students named Howard Hughes fellows

Four medical students have been selected to receive mentored training with top biomedical scientists through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Medical Research Fellows Program. The program allows students to spend a year conducting research.

Arts & Sciences recognized eight outstanding alumni and supporters of the school during its 2018 Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner, held in April. Martin Israel, professor of physics, received the Dean’s Medal.

Suresh Vedantham, MD (right), of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the School of Medicine, and a team of clinical trial investigators have been recognized with a 2018 Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Award from the Clinical Research Forum.
