Woman of the Year: Alumna Crist picks up NCAA honor

Lizzy Crist, a May engineering graduate, was named 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year. She is the second WashU student-athlete to win the award and the fifth Division III student-athlete to claim the honor.

Celebrating Gerty and Carl Cori

Monday, Oct. 23, marked the 70th anniversary of the day in 1947 that School of Medicine scientists Gerty and Carl Cori learned they had won the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. The cities of St. Louis and Glendale, Mo., where the couple lived for years, proclaimed Oct. 23 as Gerty and Carl Cori Day.

Author Ornstein to speak on nation after Trump’s election

Author and political observer Norman Ornstein, an American Enterprise Institute scholar, will be on campus next week to discuss the state of the country in the wake of Donald Trump’s election. Ornstein will give an Assembly Series talk Monday, Oct. 30.

Shantanu Chakrabartty, in collaboration with Baranidharan Raman, both of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, received a two-year, roughly $230,000 grant from the BRAIN Initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The research team aims to develop a self-sustaining brain implant that can record neural activity patterns over an organism’s lifetime.
