Uninsured breast cancer patients more likely to die

Uninsured women with breast cancer were nearly 2.6 times more likely to have a late-stage diagnosis than cancer patients who were insured, finds a new study from Kimberly Johnson, of the Brown School.

Quayle named director of pediatric emergency medicine

Kimberly S. Quayle, MD, has been named director of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine. She also will be installed May 22 as the Dana Brown Chair for Emergency Medicine at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

University announces 2017-18 Great Artists Series

For its 2017-18 Great Artists Series, the university will present three affordably priced concerts by some of today’s finest performers — including piano duet Katia and Marielle Labèque in January.

John M. Fredrickson, former head of otolaryngology, 86

John Fredrickson photoJohn M. Fredrickson, MD, former head of the Department of Otolaryngology and a professor emeritus of otolaryngology at the School of Medicine, died April 5 in Vancouver, Canada. He was 86.

Brian Z. Tamanaha, of the School of Law, has published a book, “A Realistic Theory of Law,” arguing that the law doesn’t operate in a vacuum and that legal theory should focus on consequences rather than “musings about all possible worlds.”
