New imaging technique aims to help surgeons remove cancer

Researchers report they developed a technology to scan a tumor sample and produce images detailed enough to check whether a tumor was completely removed. Photoacoustic imaging takes less time than standard techniques.

Matthew Mutch, MD, chief of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the School of Medicine, has been named the Solon and Bettie Gershman Chair in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

The university homepage, wustl.edu, the Commencement website and app, and other communication methods will be updated by 7 a.m. Friday if the ceremony must move indoors.

Burt Wheeler Day on Brookings QuadrangleQuestion: Which former dean had a day of celebration, complete with volleyball and a picnic, named in his honor?
Answer: D) Students organized “Burt Wheeler Day,” held May 11, 1971, in Brookings Quadrangle, to recognize his many contributions. The university community honored Wheeler, then dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The day featured speeches, games, a picnic and a dinner.
Congrats to this week’s winner, Rebecca Cochran, a technologist in the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine.
