New imaging technique aims to help surgeons remove cancer

Researchers report they developed a technology to scan a tumor sample and produce images detailed enough to check whether a tumor was completely removed. Photoacoustic imaging takes less time than standard techniques.

Due to the threat of severe weather Friday, May 19, the university is reminding graduating students, families and campus volunteers about the severe weather plan. The university homepage, wustl.edu, the Commencement website and app, and other communication methods will be updated by 7 a.m. Friday if the ceremony must move indoors.

‘Shame won’t solve the opioid crisis’

David A. Patterson Silver Wolf, of the Brown School, writes in an op-ed on the Stat website that blaming drug addicts won’t solve the opioid crisis or encourage people to get the treatment they need.

The Chancellor’s Graduate Fellowship Program is welcoming 12 new fellows, who will begin their graduate studies this fall. The students will be continuing their education in either Arts & Sciences, the Brown School or the Sam Fox School.

Burt Wheeler Day on Brookings Quadrangle Question: Which former dean had a day of celebration, complete with volleyball and a picnic, named in his honor?
Answer: D) Students organized “Burt Wheeler Day,” held May 11, 1971, in Brookings Quadrangle, to recognize his many contributions. The university community honored Wheeler, then dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The day featured speeches, games, a picnic and a dinner.
Congrats to this week’s winner, Rebecca Cochran, a technologist in the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine.
