Using Twitter may increase food-poisoning reporting

Nearly one in four U.S. citizens gets food poisoning every year, but very few report it. Monitoring Twitter for food-poisoning tweets and replying to them could improve foodborne illness reporting, according to a new Brown School study.

Siteman Cancer Center opens clinic for childhood cancer survivors

Siteman Cancer Center opened a clinic this month for adult survivors of childhood cancer. The Lifelong Outcomes Clinic, at the center’s south St. Louis County location, sees patients 18 and older who completed pediatric cancer treatment at least two years ago.

Egon Schwarz, professor emeritus, 94

Egon Schwarz, the Rosa May Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Humanities in Arts & Sciences, died Feb. 11. He was 94. A campus memorial service is to be held later this spring.

Schaal, dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences and president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), gave the president’s address at AAAS’ 2017 annual meeting, held Feb. 16-20 in Boston. Henry L. “Roddy” Roediger III, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences, delivered the meeting’s John P. McGovern Award Lecture in the Behavioral Sciences.
