The cost of incarceration in the United States exceeds $1 trillion, or 6 percent of gross domestic product. That dwarfs the amount spent on corrections alone, a new university study finds.

Study of grandmothers seeks clues about genetics of autism

Researchers at the School of Medicine are launching a study of autism focused on grandmothers. As autism has a strong genetic basis, the research will assess how traits of autism may pass through the generations.

X-Calibur, a novel telescope that sees polarized X-rays rather than visible or infrared light, is to launch today from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Fort Sumner, N.M. The telescope’s scientific team is led by Henric Krawczynski, of Arts & Sciences.
