New era of scientific discovery launches at university

A new era of scientific discovery is being launched that will transform teaching, research, faculty and facilities in Arts & Sciences. Driving Discovery is an ambitious multiphase project that will create new research and teaching facilities for the sciences.

‘Find a way to get in the way,’ Lewis urges students

Civil rights pioneer U.S. Rep. John Lewis addressed graduates, families and friends gathered May 20 for Commencement. “When you see something that is not fair, not right, not just, you must have the courage to stand up, to speak up and find a way to get in the way.”

School of Medicine scientists develop iBooks for medical classes

Professors in the School of Medicine’s Department of Neuroscience have developed multimedia medical books for teaching. Their high-resolution slides illustrate microscopic anatomy so precisely, it’s like looking through a microscope.

Siegfried named Kolker Professor

Carla J. Siegfried, MD, a noted glaucoma specialist, has been named the inaugural Jacquelyn E. and Allan E. Kolker, MD, Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The professorship was created with a gift from businessman Jeffrey T. Fort.

Danforth Campus construction update: Projects and timing

The Danforth Campus will be buzzing with construction activity this summer. Now that Commencement is over, crews will begin renovations on Olin Library and Bryan Hall, and they’ll start utility work in advance of enhancements to the east end of the Danforth Campus.

Obituary: Robert Morrell, professor emeritus, 86

Robert E. Morrell, a professor emeritus who taught Japanese literature and Buddhism in Arts & Sciences for 34 years, died May 11 in St. Louis after a brief illness. He was 86.
