Research reveals racial disparities in education debt

Low- to moderate-income black students and graduates accrue on average $7,721 more student debt than their white counterparts, finds a new analysis by researchers in the Brown School’s Center for Social Development.

Farming amoebae carry around detoxifying food

The social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum can farm symbiotic bacteria for food by carrying them from generation to generation. New Arts & Sciences research shows that these bacteria also can protect the amoebae from environmental toxins.

Lactation room program expands on Medical Campus

In a continuing effort to support faculty, staff and students who are nursing, the number of lactation rooms at the School of Medicine has reached 37 and is expected to grow, with added privacy and security. Lactation rooms also are available on the Danforth Campus.

Medicine’s Curiel publishes gene therapy book

David Curiel, MD, PhD, professor of radiation oncology at the School of Medicine, has just published the second edition of “Adenoviral Vectors for Gene Therapy.” The book explains gene-delivery vehicles based on the adenovirus, an emerging tool in treating disease.
