Graphic cigarette labels could cut smoking among American Indians

Graphic cigarette labels could be effective at reducing smoking rates in American Indian/Alaska Natives communities, according to Brown School research. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in those communities.

Stressed? There’s an app for that

A team of medical and engineering students has created what its inventors hope will be an aid for veterans and others: an app that measures a user’s stress and suggests steps to alleviate it. The Mindset app is available for Android and in the works for iOS.

Alumnus Eric Schultz will discuss his path “From Washington University to the White House” this week. Now the principal deputy press secretary at the White House, Schultz will speak at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15, in College Hall on the South 40.

A team led by Lori Setton, of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, received a $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue its work studying cells that make up human intervertebral discs in an effort to keep them healthy and functional. The research has the potential to provide relief for millions who suffer from neck and back pain.
