When the Ebola virus outbreak erupted in West Africa in 2014, children infected with the virus — particularly those under 5 — faced a high risk of death. Researchers involved in their treatment, including the School of Medicine’s Indi Trehan, MD, have since developed a set of guidelines aimed at improving how Ebola-infected children are treated.

L. Lewis Wall, MD, DPhil, has been named the inaugural Selina Okin Kim Conner Professor in Arts & Sciences. He was installed Oct. 21. Wall is also professor of anthropology in Arts & Sciences and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the School of Medicine.

Biologists have long thought that body size is correlated with temperature zone: Larger animals live in colder regions, smaller ones in warmer areas. Newly compiled data allowed this rule to be tested. Trevor Fristoe, PhD, of Arts & Sciences, is lead author on a study showing that animals adapt by coordinated changes in their metabolic rates and “insulation.”

The Sam Fox School will present “Sincerely, Stone & DeGuire” at the Des Lee Gallery Jan. 22-Feb. 20. The exhibition collects more than a dozen works by the husband-and-wife artist duo, who met as undergraduate art students here.

Wilfred R. Konneker, PhD ’50, a trustee emeritus of Washington University, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, in St. Louis. He was 93. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Sheldon Concert Hall.

Dan Koboldt, an analysis manager at the McDonnell Genome Institute, has written a book, “The Rogue Retrieval,” published by Harper Collins. The book centers on a stage magician who embarks on a quest in a secret world.

The Skandalaris Center is continuing its partnership with Boeing’s Phantom Works Ventures. Students have an opportunity to commercialize Boeing patents in non-aerospace applications. Information sessions are scheduled today, Jan. 22 and 25.
A memorial service to honor Nobel Prize-winning economist Douglass C. North, PhD, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in Graham Chapel. A reception will follow in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall. North died in November.
